Calc Grade
Missing a test is super stressful. It does not matter if you forgot the date your alarm did not go off or something unexpected came up. Not showing up for this assessment is a problem. What you do next really matters. The final outcome depends on how your instructor looks at your work and the specific rules at your school.
You need to take action immediately to make things better.
Your overall score will probably go down. It depends on how the class is set up.
Some schools divide your course into parts like homework, quizzes and the final paper. If you miss this test you might get a zero for that section. Since it is usually worth a lot of points your total percentage can drop quickly. For example if you had a 90% average and the final paper was worth 30% of your grade your standing could instantly fall to 63%
Other teachers just add up all the credits you get during the semester. If you skip the test you do not get those points. If the final paper is worth 200 points out of 1,000 the highest mark you can get is 80% even if you did perfect on the work.
What happens to you usually depends on why you were absent.
If you realize you missed the test do not wait. Do these things right away:
If you cannot retake the test and you fail the class think about these things:
A failing mark will bring down your Grade Point Average. Luckily many schools let you repeat the class to replace the score with a better one
If you need this class to unlock higher-level courses failing might mean you cannot take those classes, next semester. Talk to your advisor right away to figure out what you can do.
The important thing is to act fast. The sooner you talk to your teacher the chance you have of saving your hard work from the semester. Missing an exam is a big deal but it is not the end of the world. You can still fix the situation if you start today
